Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) Mumbra demonstrated against the Valentine’s Day celebrations in Mumbra. A protest was organised in front of G R Patil College, M. S. College and Kalsekar Degree College, Mumbra on February14.
The aim was to highlight the commercialisation of the Valentine’s day celebrations and to appeal to the students to think rationally before celebrating it.
“The celebration of Valentine’s Day is against our culture, it is nothing but commercial exploitation of human emotions. We believe that such activities will erode moral and family values, so we should not waste our time, energy and money on celebrating Valentine’s Day,” said Parvez Khan, president, SIO Mumbra.
Many students of G R Patil and M. S. college of Mumbra joined the protest. According to Parvez Khan, students came out to supported the awareness movement launched by the SIO. Students also promised that they would not celebrate valentine day anymore.
