SIO Mumbra Successfully Organized Career Guidance Seminar '12






On 17th June-2012, a very Informative and knowledge oriented Career Guidance Seminar, Counseling and Exhibition was held at Zam-Zam Hall, Mumbra; organized by SIO Mumbra. At around 600 Students (in two sessions) some along with their guardians attended the seminar to understand and explore their career opportunities and 100 among them registered and got counseled by the expertise. Our Speakers and Counselor for the event were welcomed by our core body of Career Guidance Cell.

Program started with the recitation of Holy Quraan (Surah Alaq 1-8) followed by its translation in urdu by Maulana Ayub Khan Noori. Very soon after this Mr. Amir Ansari (Counselor, Vice Principle of Madni High School) gave a motivational lecture on “How To Choose Career” using PPT presentation. In which he made a very clear and strict comment to choose a career knowing yourself, your intelligence, personality, economical condition, health & gender, along with work environment. He asked students to set a goal and work on to achieve it with full dedication.

“Opportunities in Social Science & humanities” were the next topic covered by Dr. Irfan Shahid (Professor, Counselor of Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah) with the help of a PPT presentation he showed students a way how to get into professional courses like CA, CS, MBA, ITWA, etc with eligibility criteria and its value in today’s world. He asked students to always desire to succeed.
“Career in Commerce” was covered by Mr. Arif Jamal (CA in Accenture, Guide and Mentor of many CA students), in which again using PPT presentation he explored the field of commerce. He quoted a comment that it is not that only students with less percentage choose career in commerce. He said that field of commerce required hard work, consistency, self-confidence and observation. He explained the marks distribution and average pattern in the subjects of commerce. He concluded his lecture asking students to select the career based on SWOT analysis also to make one’s career goal SMART and align career to his/her Deen. The part of Arts and Commerce ended with question and answer under open session.

“Career in Science” was the next session covered by Special guest of Career Guidance Seminar 2012, Dr. Usha Mukundan (Principal- Ramniranjan Jhunjunwala College- Ghatkopar). She started the lecture asking students the question about their role models and said it is the main point for our career that we should have interest in the Job/ Field we are choosing. She explained a list of courses very deeply using PPT presentation like Actuary, Fashion designing, Astrology, Clinical Research, Bio-tech., Dietics, Entrepreneur etc. She gave information regarding INSPIRE Scholarship for graduation students and various entrance Exams. She emphasized to have a masters degree from IIT’s inspite of going abroad. She concluded her lecture with a vote of thanks and best regards to the listeners. The session ended with question & answer, many come up with their doubts and queries, like how to get into IISER? How to achieve degree in genetics? And many more.

After a break of 20 minutes Seminar restarted with a lecture by Professor Safdar Ulde (Lecturer, Rizvi Jr. and degree College) on “Career in Engineering”. Additionally parallel counseling and exhibition started for registered students. In his Lecture Prof. Safdar Ulde explored the difference in diploma and engineering He said that every year we get 1 lacs. Of engineers passes out from all over India but everyone doesn’t gets the right job. But only a good one gets it. So you should be an expert in your field. He added
Next Mr. Ziya Momin (Students Counselor) and Mr. Shoeb (Students Counselor) conducted an open question and answer session on Medical and Engineering related queries. Before this they both gave a small lecture on its process, and way we should study, he compared our student of Mumbai with the students of Latur. They said if you have decided to become a doctor you should start developing such attitude that I am a medical student and even an attitude to study hard for that.

Br. Mirza Kamran Baig (President SIO-Mumbai division) addressed students with an intro of SIO and it activities. He stated that wherever in the world any revolutionary changes that had occurred were only due to the contribution given by students. Being a Student we should represent our society the best possible way. He concluded stating that it is a basic policy of SIO, so join SIO.
Next came the Technical Instructor of AAGTIC Mr. Yasin Ali explained about short term courses after S.S.C. and H.S.C. and its opportunities in industries.

Detail information about various scholarship schemes provided by central and state Govt. was given by our SiO-Associates using a PPT presentation. From which Pre-Meric, Post-Metric and MCM scholarships part was explained by Br. Eng. Imran Khan. He explained all the necessary details and process required to apply for it and the eligibility criteria. The information about Seema Khatib scholarship, IRF scholarship, etc were explained by Br. Eng. Umar, he also explained the eligibility criteria and asked student to note down some important web sites for more details.
